“Ask,and it shall be given you, seek, and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you. For everyone that asketh receiveth…..Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall you Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him? ” Matthew 7: 7-11 KJV
Jesus tells us to persist in pursuing God. People often give up after a few half-hearted efforts and conclude that God cannot be found. But knowing God, takes faith, focus, and Jesus assures us that that our efforts will be rewarded. The child in Jesus’s example asked his father for bread and fish. If the child had asked his father for a poisonous snake, would the wise father have granted his request? Sometimes God knows that we are praying for “snakes” and does not give us what we ask for.
As we learn to know God better, who is a loving Father, we ask for what is good and God grants it to us. Christ is showing us the heart of God the Father. He is not selfish, begrudgingly, or stingy, and we don’t have to beg as we come to Him with our requests. He is a loving Father who understands, cares, and comforts. Don’t give up on your efforts to seek God. Continue to ask Him for more knowledge, patience, wisdom, love and understanding.
He will give them to you. Jesus uses the expression “If ye then, being evil” to contrast the sinful and fallible human beings with the holy and perfect
